Nicole Slater paints in a unique way. She paints on the opposite side or sometimes described as the (back-side) of clear glass and plastics. The end result is what you see from the opposite side. Nicole best describes this process as if she were on one side of a clear window and (you) the viewer were on the other side. What you see is the beautiful finished product and what she sees on her side are all the layers of smeared colors it took to get to the finished painting.

The Artist says, “This process is opposite from the way a tradition painter paints on canvas. Painters usually start with the background first and then work up to the details, highlights and shadows and I do just the opposite.” The first thing Nicole paints are all the details, lighting, shadows and more. Nicole says, “This is her best method and style of work. I feel most comfortable Painting-In Reverse.”

Nicole paints from her heart and expresses it in each artwork. “It’s not about creating the perfect finished art piece, for me it’s about the journey it took to get there. I am not perfect, therefore neither are my paintings.

Nicole’s subjects include images of hearts, nature, including animals and Tuscany related themes and symbolic circles of life.
